I have two years of case-manager experience working exclusively with Vietnam veterans and their families out of the Agent Orange Class Assistance Program in the early 1990s. During that time, I was invited to testify before a congressional oversight subcommittee on the unmet social service needs of veterans. Since then, I have had a very special place in my heart for the veteran and military-connected community. Below are the trainings I have completed by the Center for Deployment Psychology.
Trainings by Center for Deployment Psychology
Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD
PE is an evidence-based, 10-12 week protocol that helps clients gently face their triggers and traumatic memories, learn corrective information, and process thoughts and beliefs. This is accomplished through no longer avoiding painful emotions and thoughts, but “exposing” oneself to gain mastery of those situations. It includes exercises in sitting with situations that cause anxiety and listening to recordings of one’s own trauma story.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia
CBT for Insomnia is a gold-standard, short-term (8 weeks) treatment that systematically counters factors that perpetuate chronic insomnia in order to defragment sleep and consolidate sleeping hours for maximum benefit.
Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD
Cognitive Processing Therapy is an evidence-based 12-week protocol that helps clients focus on how their world and worldviews have changed since their traumas, how their posttraumatic worldviews are “stuck” in the defenses learned from their traumas, and how to look at their beliefs through fresh eyes to get “unstuck.” CPT helps clients process changes in their sense of safety, trust, power/control, self-esteem, and intimancy since their traumatic experiences.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention
CBT for Suicide Prevention is a time-limited, 10-week protocol that helps clients develop coping skills for thoughts, behaviors, and moods that lead to a “suicide mode.” It focuses on changing unhelpful core beliefs, finding resources for different behaviors, and identifying reasons for living.
